Two-time Olympic champion Oleg Saitov told that the International Boxing Association (IBA) has not simply decided to challenge the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) decision to strip it of recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
On Tuesday, it emerged that the IBA had filed an appeal with the Swiss Federal Supreme Court against the CAS ruling upholding the IOC’s decision to withdraw recognition of the IBA as the legitimate governing body of boxing in July 2023. The IBA was stripped of its recognition by the IOC last summer. The organisation’s exclusion from the Olympic movement was subsequently upheld by CAS.
– If there is an opportunity to compete, then you must do it. At the very least, you must try to protect your reputation. I don’t think this lawsuit was filed just like that. Apparently, there are chances, thoughts and tasks. We will stock up on popcorn, wait for surprises and support our people.
“This is a logical step on the part of the IBA. Umar Nazarovich Kremlev does nothing for nothing. If steps are taken in this direction, it means that he has ideas and plans,” Saitov told .
In 2023, the IBA allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in international competitions wearing national symbols, contrary to IOC recommendations.
