The parties were given 30 days to agree on the terms of the championship fight.
World Boxing Association (WBA) officially announced that its cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez is obliged to defend his title in a fight against a challenger – a former world champion Yuniella Dorticosa.
The parties have 30 days to agree on the date and conditions of the fight. If this does not happen, the WBA committee may announce an auction.
According to the rules, a champion must defend his title against a mandatory challenger within 120 days of winning it. However, in this case, the committee granted Ramirez and his opponent a longer time frame.
Mexican Ramirez, who previously competed in the middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight categories, won the WBA cruiserweight championship belt on March 30, 2024, defeating Arsen Goulamiryan of France.
Cuban Dorticos lost his IBF cruiserweight title in a fight with Latvian Mairis Briedis in September 2020. Since then, the 36-year-old boxer has had three victorious fights, the last one in early June of this year (he knocked out Mexican Alan Campa in the first round).
