Russian heavyweight Sergei Pavlovich said his action after the fight at the UFC tournament in Riyadh towards his compatriot Alexander Volkov was not associated with the defeat.
The Russian fighters fought at the UFC tournament in Saudi Arabia on June 22. The number 5 in the heavyweight division, Volkov, took the initiative throughout all three rounds and defeated Pavlovich by decision. Despite friendly relations in the past, after the fight, Pavlovich pushed back against Volkov, who tried to support him.
— Would you have acted differently after the fight?
“Of course, I wouldn’t do it now, because my emotions have calmed down, etc. But the movements that were on his part were made from afar… I won’t evaluate that. I just concluded for myself that we grew up in different environments, with different concepts and principles. I’m used to living like a man, simpler, but honest and with a man’s outlook on life.
I don’t think it’s because of the fight (pushed Volkov). If you look at my path, I didn’t have any problems. Problems with losing or winning… There’s nothing wrong with that. The fight can go differently. You can win the fight, a crazy knockout will come. The backstage atmosphere itself, which I call “unmanly”, caused this. It had a basis, and you thought: “How is this possible? It seems that a person says certain things in front of the camera, but behind the camera it’s completely different. It haunted me, such injustice,” Pavlovich said on the air of “Match! Fighter”.
For Pavlovich, the loss was the third of his career and the second in a row after losing to Tom Aspinall in the fight for the UFC interim title belt.
