The ex-world light heavyweight champion praised the Briton for changing his coach before the rematch.
Hiring Robert Garcia as a coach was the best decision for Anthony Joshua, ahead of the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. This is what ex-world champion in light heavyweight Alexander Gvozdyk said.
In his opinion, the specialist will help the British boxer fill the gaps in the first fight. However, Gvozdyk preferred Oleksandr Usyk in the second match as well.
“Usyk did well in the first match and I believe we will see more of him. That’s my opinion. I think we will see something like the first fight. I don’t know.
Now Joshua changed the team and the coach. I know Robert Garcia because I started with him. I spent the first 5-6 fights with him in the corner, he was my head coach.
Garcia knows what he’s doing. He is a great and very talented coach. They say that he does not have enough experience in heavyweights, but now Joshua is an adult, mature fighter, he does not need to be taught anything new, he is not a beginner.
If you ask me what would happen if Garcia prepared Joshua for his professional debut and coached him throughout his career, I would say that it probably wasn’t the best choice.
My opinion is based solely on Garcia’s lack of experience at heavyweight. But in this particular situation, Joshua is a mature heavyweight who knows everything and can do everything.
I believe that Robert is the best option to fill the gaps in the first fight with Usyk. It will make the fight more interesting,” Gvozdyk said in an interview on the WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS YouTube channel.
It can be remembered that the rematch between Usyk and Joshua will take place on August 20 in Saudi Arabia. The match will take place in the city of Jeddah at the Super Dome arena.
In the first match, which took place in September 2021, the Ukrainian defeated the Briton by unanimous decision, winning the championship belt.
Recall, earlier it was known that Usyk bought the rights to broadcast a rematch with Joshua for the sake of a free show in Ukraine.
