UFC working on Makhachev-Tsarukyan fight – media

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is exploring options for a fight between the UFC lightweight champion and the Russian. Islam Makhachev and his compatriot Arman Tsarukian reports journalist Ariel Helwani.

According to him, the date of the fight is still unknown. The organization is also considering options for a fight between Irishman Connor McGregor and American Michael Chandler. Initially, the fighters were supposed to meet in the octagon in the main fight of the UFC 303 tournament in Las Vegas on June 29. But this fight was canceled due to the Irishman’s injury.

Earlier, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) disqualified and fined Tsarukyan for a fight with a fan at UFC 300. The incident occurred on April 13 ahead of Tsarukyan’s fight with Brazilian Charles Oliveira. The victory in the fight made Tsarukyan a contender for Makhachev’s lightweight championship belt.

Makhachev defeated Poirier on June 1 at UFC 302 in the United States. The Russian won by fifth-round submission and retained the UFC championship belt. In his MMA career, Makhachev has 26 wins and one loss. Tsarukyan has 22 wins and 3 losses.
