Russian athletes who decided to participate in the Olympics with a neutral status should not return to their country, the president of the International Boxing Association (IBA) told . Oumar Kremlev .
Earlier, the press service of the head of the Republic of Crimea told that athletes representing the republic who were selected for the Paris Olympics, but refused to participate, would receive compensation in the amount of one million rubles.
— The boxers already said it two years ago. It is also a kind of absurdity. Those who agreed to travel without a flag and an anthem are already traitors. And they also need to be convinced: “We will give you money, now refuse.” It makes no sense. Just include them in the list, and those who agreed to do without a flag and an anthem had better not come back. When you leave without a flag and an anthem, who do you represent there? What are you doing there?
Some say: “Oh, you don’t know how much time they spent going to play! It’s some kind of work”… But when you are given the choice to hang a medal around your neck, but you refuse your saint… It is equivalent to the fact that it is better to shoot yourself. Those who were thinking of traveling without a flag and an anthem should not come back. This is my personal opinion. For me, they are traitors. Those who refused to do without a flag and an anthem are real men, they are proud. I am proud of them. I am grateful to them. These are people you can count on, they do not go where the wind blows. They are worthy people, they are an example for society,” the correspondent reports, reporting Kremlev’s words.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has allowed Russian athletes to participate in the Games, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, subject to a number of criteria. In Paris, they will be able to perform in neutral status (without flag or anthem), but their compliance with the necessary criteria will be assessed by a special IOC commission.
