Shakur wore a T-shirt with the Ukrainian’s image after the fight with Arutyunyan
WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson challenged the IBF and IBO lightweight title holder to a fight Vasily Lomachenko.
The American, after a fight with Artem Arutyunyan from Germany, entered the ring wearing a T-shirt with the Ukrainian’s image. It had the inscription: “Bob protects his son from getting his ass spanked.”
“That’s the message. Tell Lomachenko to fight me. Wouldn’t that be a fun fight? Someone comes in and tries to win. It’s a fun fight. Technically, it’s a good fight.”
“A lot of people are probably saying, ‘Lomachenko will beat him.’ He didn’t knock this guy out. A lot of people probably won’t believe me. So why not make the fight? No, he doesn’t want to fight.”
Stevenson defeated Arutyunyan in his last fight. The fight lasted all 12 rounds, and Shakur eventually won by decision.
Earlier, promoter Bob Arum said that representatives of Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis have been negotiating for several weeks about a face-to-face confrontation between the two champions. According to preliminary information, the Lomachenko-Davis fight could take place in November 2024.
On May 12, Lomachenko defeated Australian George Kambosos by technical knockout in his last fight. The Ukrainian won the vacant IBF lightweight belt, which was previously vacated by his previous opponent Devin Haney. Vasily also took the IBO belt, which was held by Kambosos.
