Athletistic/MMA. Conor McGregor makes his film debut alongside acclaimed actor Jake Gyllenhaal in a new reimagining of ’80s Hollywood classic Road House.

The MMA legend joins a cast that already includes Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lucas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, BC Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominic Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery.

The former two-weight UFC champion posted a Deadline article on social media claiming he was playing a role in a remake of the 1980s classic. Amazon has confirmed the news.

Gyllenhaal will play a former UFC fighter who accepts a job as a bouncer at a roadside restaurant in Florida, only to discover something is wrong. The hero must face corrupt businessmen and gang members who control the city.

While it’s currently unknown who McGregor will be playing in the film, it’s been confirmed that as an original character, the charismatic Irishman won’t be playing himself.

Production on the Amazon Original film is set to begin in the Dominican Republic at the end of August, and it’s unclear if that will delay McGregor’s return to the UFC.

McGregor spokeswoman Karen Kessler insists wrestling remains a priority for her client after news of his big-screen move broke.

“Conor McGregor is thrilled to expand his Hollywood career and join Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of the beloved Roadhouse classic.”said Kessler.

“While fighting remains his primary focus, this is the start of another successful venture into the McGregor empire. He really wants to start filming.”

McGregor hasn’t fought since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 last July.

The 34-year-old athlete was out of action after breaking his tibia and fibula. Since then, he has been in rehab, traveling the world on his incredible Lamborghini yacht.

McGregor, who recently returned to MMA training, has gained weight during his time away from the sport but has already announced plans to return to the welterweight division.

Conor will be hoping for a title shot upon his return, but that seems unlikely given he’s been on a two-game losing streak with just one win since 2016.

Either way, he definitely has options after being called into action by Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler and Jorge Masvidal.

McGregor also appears to have a lucrative rematch option with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather after winning $100 million in his first fight with him in 2017.
