“This is the first time this has happened to me – we fought and we have to fight again” – PFL semi-finalist Musaev on his rematch with Ramazanov

PFL Grand Prix Welterweight Semi-Finalist Shamil Musaev commented on on the immediate rematch with Murad Ramaznov after the knockout victory.

Undefeated MMA fighters Ramazanov and Musaev met in the group stage of the PFL welterweight tournament on June 28 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Musaev knocked out Ramazanov in the second round and entered the playoffs with ten points, taking first place in the standings. The loser Ramazanov ended up in fourth place. According to the tournament rules, he must have a semifinal match with Musaev on August 23, which effectively becomes an immediate rematch for the fighters.

— Russian athletes try not to fight in American promotions. Did you have any communication with Murad before or after the fight?

– Yes, of course. We have known each other for a long time, we talked. We fought as amateurs, he beat me. After the fight, we greeted each other. I happened to fight with my teammates: they fought, got a slap on the wrist and separated.

— Were you surprised when you learned that you had to fight again?

“I’m not surprised by anything in this life anymore, but this was unexpected.” This is the first time I’ve had a fight like this, and then there was an immediate rematch.

— Don’t you think Mourad will refuse the fight? He lost by KO and now has less than two months to prepare…

“I think it’s unlikely that anyone would refuse.” Why give up such an opportunity to prove yourself? In any case, there will be a second fight. It’s a sport.

— In the episode with KO, you didn’t hit very well with your right, but you caught your left…

– He’s a blank. Murad’s keys are hard to find. He senses distance well, he’s hard to hit and he dodges punches well. It’s like he’s a drummer and not a wrestler.

— When will you return to America?

— Now I am in Kizlyar, I took a break for a few days. Right now I am going to the hospital, because the injury was minor and I did not fight at all in the month before the fight. I just did not tell anyone. I will check everything and fly, as usual, 20 days before the fight. When you fly there, it is not very difficult, but when you come back here, acclimatization is worse. Even now I slept for a few hours and went to the hospital, ”Musaev told .

Musaev, 30, has a MMA record of 16 wins, no losses, and one draw.
