Athletistic / Olympic Games. Former world boxing champion and silver medalist at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul (South Korea) Roy Jones Jr. believes that Russian athletes did the right thing by refusing to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France). Last week, Russian wrestlers and judokas admitted to the 2024 Olympics refused to travel to the French capital.
“If athletes are supported by the state, then they should support their country. In the current conditions, athletes are doing the right thing by not participating in the Oil Olympics, since the state invested money in them and supported them. Such a level of discrimination against Russian athletes, it all looks like humiliation,” Jones said according to TASS.
On July 6, the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation issued an official statement announcing the definitive refusal of its athletes to participate in the upcoming Summer Olympics.
Russian athletes are allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with a neutral status and subject to a number of criteria. This politicized decision by the IOC is linked to the events in Ukraine.
