Current winner of the Silk Way Rally Marathon in the truck category Sergei Vyazovich MAZ-SPORTauto, after completing the sixth stage, said that the crew Dmitry Sotnikov KAMAZ-master acted unsportsmanlike by using an overtaking signal.
The sixth stage of the Silk Way Rally on the Khovd-Khovd route ended in Mongolia on Wednesday. The special stage was won by KAMAZ master driver Eduard Nikolaev. Sotnikov finished second, Vyazovich third.
Sotnikov leads the overall standings, ahead of Viazovich by 3 minutes 11 seconds.
— We started first. There were smooth, fast roads and a lot of dust. So the main task for us was to be the first to leave the dunes, since then dusty roads awaited us again. But we made a mistake in the dunes; Dima Sotnikov went around us. We stood behind him, caught up with him and were able to overtake him at the end of the dunes. There was a short distance between us. Well done guys, they started signaling overtaking. That is, I just overtook you at the exit of the dunes, and you immediately honk your horn, because you understand that the dust is about to start, and you are 200 meters behind. It is not entirely sporty to use a signal in this way. They will now be angry about this situation. Before the finish line there was an entrance to the bridge, they gave a signal again, but we did not react. “We lost the exit from the dunes – sorry,” reports the correspondent.
Sotnikov noted that the Belarusian crew should have given way to him.
— Nikolaev and I started behind Vyazovich, did not attack him 100%, but slowly approached. In front of the dunes, we managed to get close to Sergei. He made a loop in the sand and got behind us, without trying to overtake us. At the exit from the dunes, we saw the road, Vyazovich began to cut and stood in front of us. We were driving parallel close to each other, he began to move in our direction and began to collect dust in order to create difficulties. We began to honk and move away from him.
Our crew “drove” for 3 minutes, and it was not entirely correct on their part. And then we no longer had the opportunity to overtake Viazovich, because the wind changed and in the dust I did not take risks or make any maneuvers. They signaled him several times, but there was no response. We will come to see the telemetry, the signals were received – 100%. I do not understand this reaction. If they catch up with you, you will have to give way, “said Sotnikov.
The Silk Road Rally crosses Russia and Mongolia and ends on July 15 in Ulaanbaatar. The total length of the race is 5,243 km, the length of the special stages is 2,992 km.
