World Championship bronze medalist and Russian boxing champion Maxime Babanine told he would become the runner-up to the AMC Fight Nights champion Vladimir Mineev in duel with Magomed Ismailov .
The boxing match between Mineev and Ismailov will take place on July 20 in Moscow. The rivals had two fights under MMA rules in 2018 and 2021, which ended in a draw and a victory for Mineev, respectively.
The upcoming fight is scheduled for eight three-minute rounds and will be Mineev’s first boxing performance after the start of his professional career. Mineev’s training partner was 35-year-old boxer from Volgograd Babanin, who has long been the number one of the Russian national team in the heavyweight division.
— Vladimir and I met several times at training camps, I think it was in 2012 or 2013. I knew him since then, but it wasn’t like we communicated regularly. And now he called me: “Maxim, hello, my coach advised me to prepare with you for the fight with Ismailov. Can you help me?” I said I could. I thought he would invite me somewhere to train, but he said he would come to Volgograd himself so that we could hold a training camp.
– Can you count how many rounds of sparring you have had?
— We had about eight sessions of eight rounds. So, if we multiply, we get 64 rounds.
— Will you be at Vladimir’s side during the fight?
“Yes, I will be one of the seconds,” Babanin told .
In 2021, Babanin began his professional career; the heavyweight now has 6 wins in 6 fights.
