Bogachuk: Ortiz wouldn’t have taken the fight with me if he wasn’t confident in himself

The Ukrainian stressed that he is not going to part with the WBC interim world champion belt

WBC Interim Light Middleweight Champion Sergey Bogachuk (24-1, 23 KOs) shared his opinion about his next opponent, the holder of the WBO International welterweight belt Virgil Ortiz (21-0, 21 KO).

“I saw his fights. If he had fights with bags, that would be one thing. But he won against good boxers. He won against a good Lithuanian – Kavaliauskas. Then he beat a good Englishman. He won against good boxers, knocked them out. This shows that he is strong.”

“I understand that he knows me. Ortiz knows that I am tough. He would not take the fight with me if he was not 100 percent confident. If he took this fight, it means that he is confident. Ortiz will be 100 percent, he is very confident. I don’t think he took this fight for nothing. He wants to win, he wants this belt. But it is my belt. I’m sorry, I will not give it to anyone.”

The fight between Bogachuk and Ortiz will take place on August 10. The event will take place in Las Vegas at the Michelob Ultra arena in the famous Mandalay Bay casino. The interim WBC title, which Bogachuk holds, will be at stake.

Let us recall that the Ukrainian confidently defeated the American Brian Mendoza in a fight that took place in late March in Las Vegas. Following 12 rounds, all judges gave the victory to Bogachuk – 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111.

Vergil Ortiz defeated Tomas Dulorme from Puerto Rico in his last fight. The American has won all his fights ahead of schedule.
