Bogachuk’s Promoter Loeffler: When Sergey Says There Will Be a War in the Ring, It’s a Metaphor for What’s Happening in His Country

Bogachuk vs. Ortiz fight to take place August 10 in Las Vegas

Promoter of the Ukrainian boxer, WBC world champion in the first middleweight, Sergei Bogachuk (24-1, 23 KO) Tom Loeffler commented on his client’s upcoming fight with the WBO International welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz (21-0, 21 KOs)

“A lot of people don’t want to fight Vergil Ortiz. A lot of people ask, ‘Why is Sergey fighting him in his first defense?’ But that’s what makes boxers great. That’s what makes boxing great for the fans.”

“It was good to come to an agreement with Golden Boy. Sergey wants to prove that he is the best in the division. As they said at the press conference, the 69.9 kg division is the best division in boxing right now. There are so many talented fighters in it: Fundora, Errol Spence, Crawford is moving up in weight and other great fighters. Sergey Bogachuk and Vergil Ortiz with their knockout percentages – they will be fireworks from the first round.”

“All these Ukrainian fighters, they are fighting for a higher purpose. They are fighting for their lives, for their country, they are representing their country – and this is the motivation that Sergey needs.”

“What’s happening in the boxing ring can be compared to what’s happening in his country. When he says there’s going to be a war in the ring, it’s a metaphor for what’s happening in his country. A few days ago, a children’s hospital was bombed. It’s crazy! To think that this is happening in today’s world, especially in Europe with all its history. The motivation he gets from this is just incredible.”

The fight between Bogachuk and Ortiz will take place on August 10. The event will take place in Las Vegas at the Michelob Ultra arena in the famous Mandalay Bay casino. The interim WBC title, which Bogachuk holds, will be at stake.

Both boxers have already spoken about the confrontation. The Ukrainian emphasized that he is not going to part with the WBC interim world champion belt. Virgil stated that his boxing style is similar to Sergey’s.

Let us recall that the Ukrainian confidently defeated the American Brian Mendoza in a fight that took place in late March in Las Vegas. Following 12 rounds, all judges gave the victory to Bogachuk – 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111.

Vergil Ortiz defeated Tomas Dulorme from Puerto Rico in his last fight. The American has won all his fights ahead of schedule.
