Russian Judo Federation President Calls IOC Invitations to Olympics for Individual Athletes ‘Gifts’

President of the Russian Judo Federation Sergei Soloveichik described the invitations to the Paris Olympics for individual Russian athletes as “documents” of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In late June, the IOC allowed four Russian judokas to participate in the 2024 Olympics in neutral status; in total, Russia had 12 quotas for participation in the Games – 7 men and 5 women. After the IOC list was published, Soloveitchik told that Russian judokas were refusing to fully participate in the 2024 Games.

— The Presidium of the Judo Federation made a unanimous decision that we would not be fooled by alms. We brought this decision to the team, but it was the decision of the presidium. Each athlete was free to do it independently. I am proud that the four athletes invited by the IOC supported our opinion and declared that they would not participate in the Olympic Games.

McConnell (IOC sports director) timidly said that there was a more in-depth study, but in my opinion it is an excuse. I think there is an order so that Russian judokas do not climb to the pedestal,” Soloveichik said in the program “Loud” of .

The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
