UFC champ Jones faces jail time for assaulting anti-doping officer

UFC American Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones faces two misdemeanor charges, MMA Fighting reports.

According to the publication, Jones is accused of assault and obstruction of communications against an employee of the UFC Drug Free Sport anti-doping agency who came to the fighter’s home on March 30 to take a drug test. It was reported that the 36-year-old athlete, while intoxicated, attacked an employee, snatched his cell phone and threatened to kill him.

If Jones is convicted on both counts, he faces less than a year in prison and a fine of up to $1,500. A hearing on the case will be held July 17.

Jones has held the championship belt since March 2023 after defeating Frenchman Cyril Gan. He is ranked third in the UFC rankings, regardless of weight class. Jones has 27 wins and one loss in his MMA career.
