Antonio Tarver: Lomachenko does a lot of work in the middle of the ring and Davis may have difficulties

Both boxers can “close” the fight early, according to Antonio

Former light heavyweight champion American Antonio Tarver commented on the upcoming fight of the American WBA belt holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis with the IBF and IBO lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko.

“This is a hell of a fight. I believe this is going to be a fight for the ages. If you watch Gervonta Davis’ last fight… I think it’s going to be hard for anyone to pin Loma with his footwork. We know Loma doesn’t hang around the ropes. So I believe this fight is going to be in the center of the ring.”

“If you look at it that way, Loma does a lot of work in the center of the ring. That can be difficult.”

“Loma has a chance against anyone. Lomachenko can beat anyone because he is so talented. But if Davis is on his game, we will have a great fight. I believe that power is always the exclamation point when it comes to a fight. If you have power, you can close the show at any point in the fight. Power is something you always want to have in boxing.”

“Right now I don’t know who will win this fight, but I’m leaning towards the younger and fresher Gervonta Davis. But don’t underestimate the older and wiser veteran,”

The fight between Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) and Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) is planned for November 2024 in Las Vegas, USA. The parties are continuing negotiations regarding the location of the event. It is reported that the MGM Grand or T-Mobile Arena may host the boxing evening.

On the night of June 16, Gervonta defended his championship title by knocking out fellow countryman Frank Martin. The 29-year-old boxer remains undefeated, with 28 of his 30 victories coming ahead of schedule.

On May 12, Lomachenko defeated Australian George Kambosos by technical knockout in his last fight. The Ukrainian won the vacant IBF lightweight belt, which was previously vacated by his previous opponent Devin Haney. Vasily also took the IBO belt, which was held by Kambosos.
