World Taekwondo Championship bronze medallist Polina Khan, speaking on ‘s ‘Above Olympus’, has spoken of her reaction to being denied entry to the Paris Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not allowed four Russian taewondo athletes with a license to compete in the Paris Olympics: Khan, Maxim Khramtsov, Vladislav Larin and Tatiana Minina.
“My body, it seems to me, did not accept this news at first. It was as if I did not feel any emotions. And three days later I was very ill! I began to realize all this. Very sad! Even today, if I start to think about it, it hits me a little. But I try not to think about it. Nothing can be changed. But it is very hard!
It seems to me that the mistake was that we seemed so sure that we would go. We did everything that was expected of us, athletes. The mistake was that we were not ready. [к пропуску Игр]. Personally, for some reason, I believed so much [в поездку на Игры]what happened like this made me angry. I think that if we had thought a little in advance about the possibility that we would not go, it would have been a little easier. And it turned out to be such a strong blow! – Khan said on the air of the program “Above Olympus. Taekwondo” on .
The IOC announced in December 2023 that it would allow Russian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics to have individual neutral status without a national flag, anthem or other symbol. The IOC also banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
