Spencer Brown believes ‘The Gypsy King’ will make minor changes to his preparation for the rematch
Spencer Brownmanager of the former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Furysaid that the “Gypsy King” does not plan any further fights until a rematch with the WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight champion takes place Alexander Usik.
“Is Fury going to see Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois? I think he’s a good friend of Dubois, he’s with the same promotional company. But I think Tyson just wants to see a good fight. Who is he going to support? Probably Daniel Dubois.”
“Will there be plans to fight the winner of Joshua-Dubois? I think we need to put a stop to that. If Fury doesn’t win the next fight, there won’t be any plans. So it’s vital that he beats Usyk.”
“There will be changes, not in the management or his team. There will be other things that he will work on in training.”
“With the closeness of the first fight, it could have gone either way. Some people will say Usyk was three rounds ahead, some people won’t, that’s your opinion of boxing – that’s why we love it. But Tyson Fury is coming back. He’s going to be on fire and we’re going to see a new, better Tyson Fury.”
On the night of May 19, Usyk inflicted the first defeat of Tyson Fury’s professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Alexander became the first absolute heavyweight champion in the four-belt era. In the heavyweight division, the last time the absolute title was held was by Lennox Lewis in 1999, but back then three titles were enough to win the title.
Usyk subsequently issued a statement in which he announced that he would give the IBF belt to the winner of the British derby between his two former opponents in the ring – Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua.. Thus, Alexander lost the status of absolute world champion in heavyweight, which he held for more than a month.
Usyk and Fury have reached an agreement for a rematch. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. It was reported that the second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight.
