Russian Women’s Boxing Team Coach Talks About IBA Exclusion: “Sport Should Be Outside of Politics. This Is the IOC Slogan, But They Don’t Adhere to It”

The exclusion of the International Boxing Association (IBA) by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from the list of recognized federations is a biased decision in which there is nothing sporting, it is rather a political situation, the head coach of the Russian women’s boxing team Albert Mutalibov told .

On Tuesday, the IOC excluded the IBA, led by Russian Umar Kremlev, from the list of recognised international federations.

— I think that for some time now the IBA has been operating independently, without the participation of the International Olympic Committee and without its patronage. The IBA, as an independent organization, organizes large and quite colorful competitions with significant monetary prizes. The exclusion of the IBA from the list of recognized federations is a biased decision in which there is nothing sporting, it is rather a political situation.

Umar Nazarovich (Kremlin) has repeatedly said that the right to participate in certain competitions cannot be taken away from athletes. I fully agree with his words and support him. Sport should be outside of politics and, in fact, this is the slogan of the IOC, but for some reason they do not adhere to it, Mutalibov told .

Russian and Belarusian boxers, according to the IBA decision, participate in international competitions with national symbols.

The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The boxing tournament at the Games will again take place without the participation of the IBA.
