Kremlin on IBA expulsion: “IOC is trying to take revenge on a transparent organization. The trial will begin soon.”

President of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Oumar Kremlev said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) is taking revenge on the IBA and has announced the imminent opening of legal proceedings. Lawyers are now working on the case.

On Tuesday, at the 142nd IOC session in Paris, the decision was taken to exclude the IBA from the list of recognised international federations.

– Regarding this criminal organization led by Thomas Bach… They are trying to take revenge on a transparent organization. The funniest thing is their words: “We exclude them.” Where were we excluded? We are an independent organization where elections are held, not just nominations. I was re-elected three times in one year. First because I am Russian, then as if there was something wrong with the elections. Okay, we invited independent experts and did everything.

Our goal is to have boxing everywhere, including the Olympics. The Olympics will be a qualifying round for the right to fight for the IBA title, and we will also pay prize money to boxers for their achievements at the Olympics (the total prize money is $13 million from the IBA). So they are furious.

Our World Cup is rated much higher. All this is paid off through marketing. Our task is to help athletes, including financially. We have great distrust of the IOC, we exclude them. The boxing community will soon make a statement. For boxers, the main thing was not the Olympics, but the World Championship, because all the conditions were created there.

The trial will begin soon. We have lawyers. There should be no politics in sports, there should be no monopoly in sports. And the current leadership of the IOC, especially Thomas Bach, is not up to his positions. He was lost in every sense of the word. The IOC is divisive today, but should unite. Let’s take the athletes of Russia and Israel. Russian athletes are to blame, but not Israeli athletes. There is no freedom of speech, no democratic elections. But why are they afraid of IBA? Because we defend the athletes. And how many threats have there been… – the correspondent reports Kremlev’s words.

In April, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed the IBA’s appeal against the IOC Session’s decision to withdraw the organisation’s recognition. In 2019, the IOC temporarily withdrew the IBA’s recognition status for economic reasons and due to a management crisis within the organisation, and also presented demands for reforms.

Russian and Belarusian boxers, according to the decision of the International Boxing Association (IBA), participate in international competitions with national symbols.
