The International Boxing Association (IBA) believes that the bias of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) against the organisation is personal and motivated by the vendetta of IOC President Thomas Bach.
On Tuesday, at the 142nd IOC Session in Paris, the decision was taken to exclude the IBA from the list of recognized international federations. On Wednesday, IBA President Umar Kremlev, in his speech Telegram channel reported that the organization was launching an investigation against the IOC.
“Currently, Olympic medals do not reflect their value, which is a lack of respect for athletes who train hard for many years and sacrifice so much to reach the highest level, not to enrich the IOC. We also call on IOC members to vote no confidence in Thomas Bach, based on his management policies and his clear abuse of power. A perfect example is Bach’s double standards towards Russia and Israel. Athletes should not be responsible for political decisions, they train and compete, which is difficult and has nothing to do with the political games he uses for his personal gain.
For example, the International Friendship Association has launched a brand new event, the Friendship Games, which could replace the Olympics on a large scale. This event is designed in the best interests of the athletes, without political games or commercial motivations or interests. The Friendship Games offer a prize fund of $100 million as well as paid airfare and accommodation, which makes the athletes very different from the Olympics. This is exactly the kind of attitude and treatment that athletes deserve.
Finally, let us stress that the IOC’s bias against the IBA is purely personal, as we all know, motivated by Thomas Bach’s revenge, which cannot be justified. As the IBA family, we have become the true home of boxing, serving the interests of boxers, coaches and national federations. There is no politics in our house and there are no restrictions on athletes representing their flags and singing their anthems with dignity when they win.
Given the current situation, it is no longer possible to pretend that all is well with the IOC leadership. The recent presidential elections at the Olympic Council of Asia and the unprecedented pressure exerted by the IOC leadership are clear evidence of this. These circumstances led to one candidate, carefully selected by Thomas Bach, remaining in the presidential race, while others were declared ineligible or withdrew their candidacy, and the duly elected President was previously dismissed by Bach and his team, the statement said.
In April, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed the IBA’s appeal against the IOC Session’s decision to withdraw the organisation’s recognition. In 2019, the IOC temporarily withdrew the IBA’s recognition status for economic reasons and due to a management crisis within the organisation, and also presented demands for reforms.
