Turkish boxer Tugrulhan Erdemir has been temporarily suspended from competition due to an anti-doping rule violation, according to the website of the International Anti-Doping Agency (ITA).
The athlete’s doping test on February 17 contained the banned substance hydrochlorothiazide. The investigation concluded that there was no evidence that the substance had entered Erdemir’s body through a “contaminated pharmaceutical product.” After that, the 25-year-old boxer was charged.
The ITA referred Erdemir’s case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD) and imposed a provisional suspension on the boxer. The athlete himself also appealed to CAS ADD to request that the sanctions be lifted. On Wednesday, the committee upheld the ITA’s decision and maintained Erdemir’s provisional ban, which extends until the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Erdemir is a bronze medalist at the European Championships in the weight category up to 71 kg.
