Alvarez won his fourth straight title in May, defending his titles against Jaime Munguia by unanimous decision. The IBF then ordered the Mexican to fight Germany’s William Scull, who has been the organization’s mandatory challenger for nearly a decade.
Saul missed the mandatory title defense, preferring a fight against Edgar Berlanga. This fight is tentatively scheduled for September 14 in Las Vegas, and before it, Canelo will also cease to be the absolute champion, losing the IBF title.
