Samoan boxing coach dies at Paris Olympic Village

Samoan boxing coach Lionel Elika has died during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the International Boxing Association (IBA) reported on its website.

According to media reports, the 60-year-old specialist died “of natural causes” in the Olympic village.

“The IBA extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Lionel, who tragically passed away during the Games. Lionel’s dedication and passion for the sport left an indelible mark on the boxing community. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Our thoughts and prayers are with Team Samoa and all those affected by this difficult loss,” the statement said.

The Paris Olympic Games take place from July 26 to August 11.
