Athletistic / MMA. UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev of Russia has no plans to fight the promotion’s welterweight titleholder, American Belal Muhammad, Makhachev’s team has said.
According to TASS, the fight between Makhachev and Muhammad will not take place, as it is too early to talk about the promotion of Islam in the higher weight category. This may also be influenced by the fact that the Russians and Americans are old friends.
On the night of July 28, Belal Muhammad defeated Briton Leon Edwards by decision to become the UFC welterweight champion.
Islam Makhachev has 26 wins and one loss in his mixed martial arts career. Early in the morning of June 2 (Moscow time), he defeated American Dustin Poirier in the main fight of the UFC 302 tournament. The 32-year-old Russian won by choke in the fifth round. After the fight, Makhachev, in a flash interview right in the octagon, announced his desire to fight for the welterweight title.
