The Ukrainian’s first opponent will not be from the “first echelon”
Former light heavyweight world champion Alexander Gvozdik said that he will return to the ring on the undercard of the fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez – Edgar Berlangawhich is planned to be held on September 14.
“I’m going to fight on the undercard of Canelo. They’ve already confirmed that for me. So I’m coming back.”
“Eddie Hearn’s fighters don’t want to box. They only want to fight each other or other British guys. I’m open to any challenge. I’ll even let you in on a secret – I have a very interesting fight in the pipeline at the end of this year or early next year against a top opponent. Considering I’m currently number one in the WBC rankings, it might be for that title again.”
“I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, because I need to come back and make up for the loss in September. I expect that I will be able to do it without any problems. And then there are very interesting options for December or January, February. I already have a name, but it is still being processed. For me, this is another big megafight.”
“This is boxing, and anything can happen. The idea is that in September I fight on Canelo’s card against a non-top opponent to come back and feel everything I need to feel to come back. And then another big fight in December or January,”
Gvozdyk suffered his second career defeat in June, losing to David Benavidez in a fight for the vacant WBC interim title. The American won the fight by unanimous decision at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Earlier, in 2020, the Ukrainian ended his career, but then decided to return to professional boxing. From 2016 to 2019, he held the WBC world champion title in the light heavyweight category. In 2012, Alexander became an Olympic bronze medalist.
