Head coach of the Russian women’s boxing team Albert Mutalibov told that after the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, the decision of the International Olympic Committee to allow men to participate in the women’s boxing tournament no longer disappoints.
On Tuesday, the IOC cleared Algerian Iman Khelif and Taiwanese Lin Yu-Ting to compete in women’s boxing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. Following gender testing, the athletes were found to have XY chromosomes.
— Today, nothing surprises you, especially after the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. They [МОК] have fully revealed themselves, their orientation in this direction has become obvious. All the contours have blurred, everything has become completely obvious.
— Were you disappointed by this decision?
– You’re not even disappointed anymore. There are two genders: male and female, and there can be nothing in between. Essentially, these boxers are men, but in terms of mental strength, they turned out to be women. And since they entered the women’s tournament, they are weaker in mind than women.
I think this is completely wrong, men should box with men, women with women. The IOC must cultivate the fight of athletes on an equal footing, and gaining an advantage through gender reassignment is a bad thing.
— Do you think some girls will withdraw from the Olympic tournament in protest?
“The athletes are quite strong-minded, and I don’t think they will participate in the filming, but they are in obviously unequal conditions.
The IBA correctly disqualified these two boxers at the time, they failed the gender test. There have long been conversations that these women are actually men, and they had to be removed at the beginning of the World Championship, because our athlete was injured during the tournament, she lost the fight, Mutalibov told .
Boxing competitions at the Olympic Games are organised by a special unit created by the IOC Executive Board. In June 2023, the IOC Session expelled the IBA from the Olympic movement by a majority vote.
The Olympic Games in the French capital will end on August 11.
