The technical director of the Italian boxing team, Emanuele Renzini, has described the Paris Olympics as the worst in terms of judging.
On Tuesday, the 2023 world champion, Italian Irma Testa, lost to China’s Xu Zi Chun by split decision in the first round of the competition. The fight took place in the weight category up to 57 kilograms.
“These are the worst Olympic Games in terms of judging, and too many mistakes have affected Italy. Our best athletes have lost two probable medals within a few days of each other. The three-round evaluation criterion does not fit such an important event,” Renzini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Boxing competitions at the Olympic Games are organized by a special unit created by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In June 2023, the IOC session, by a majority vote, excluded from the Olympic movement the International Boxing Association, under whose auspices the 2023 World Championships were held.
The Olympic Games in the French capital will end on August 11.
