Russian Boxing Federation not surprised that men can compete with women at Olympic tournament

Chairman of the Coaches Council of the Russian Boxing Federation Edouard Kravtsov told that after the Olympic opening ceremony he was not surprised by the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision to allow men to compete in the women’s boxing tournament.

On Tuesday, the IOC admitted Iman Khelif from Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting Taiwan’s women’s boxing competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. Following gender testing, the athletes were found to have XY chromosomes.

— There is nothing special to comment on here. Knowing that transgender people represented the 12 apostles at the opening ceremony of the Olympics, what can I say, why be surprised? Transgender people can already perform there, men can compete with women and vice versa. Everything was shown at the opening ceremony, the rest is just consequences,” Kravtsov told .

Boxing competitions at the Olympic Games are organised by a special unit created by the IOC Executive Board. In June 2023, the IOC Session expelled the IBA from the Olympic movement by a majority vote.

The Olympic Games in the French capital will end on August 11.
