Promoter hopes to organize fight between two Britons
Promoter Eddie Hearn said that the fight between two British ex-world champions Anthony Joshua And Tyson Fury will take place if both win their next matches against Daniel Dubois and WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC world champion Alexandra Usika respectively.
“I think realistically, if Joshua beats Daniel Dubois on September 21 (which I believe he will do) and if Fury beats Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch on December 21 (which I think he can do even as an underdog), then their fight will be next and it will be a unification fight for the undisputed heavyweight title.”
“His Excellency will make sure this fight happens. If one of them wins and the other loses, the fight can still happen. But right now, we just need to focus on the big moment in the heavyweight division.”
In his last fight on the night of May 19, Usyk inflicted the first defeat of his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Alexander became the first absolute heavyweight champion in the four-belt era. In the heavyweight division, the last time the absolute title was held was by Lennox Lewis in 1999, but back then three titles were enough to win the title.
Usyk subsequently issued a statement in which he announced that he would give the IBF belt to the winner of the British derby between his two former opponents in the ring – Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua.. Thus, Alexander lost the status of absolute world champion in heavyweight, which he held for more than a month.
The Joshua-Dubois fight will take place on September 21. The arena for the event will be London’s Wembley Stadium. Dubois will defend his IBF heavyweight title there,
