Athletistic/OI-2024. Italian boxer Angela Carini has explained her decision to withdraw from the fight against Algerian Imen Khelif in the 1/8 finals of the Olympic boxing tournament in Paris.
“My nose hurt a lot and I decided there was no point in continuing. After the first blow, my nose started bleeding. I have often fought in the national team and I train with my brother. Usually I fight with men, but today it was too painful,” Carini was quoted as saying by AFP.
Carini refused to continue the fight at 46 seconds. Khelif failed a testosterone test and was suspended from the 2023 World Boxing Championships.
