Taiwan’s Lin Yuting has reached the quarter-finals of the boxing competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
In the 1/8 finals of the weight category up to 57 kg, Yutin defeated the representative of Uzbekistan Sitora Turdibekova with a score of 5-0.
In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Yuting and Algerian Iman Khelif from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. Following gender testing, the athletes were found to have XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) cleared them to compete in women’s competitions in 2024.
On Thursday, Italy’s Angela Carini refused to continue her 1/8 final boxing match in the weight category up to 66 kg against Khelif at the 2024 Olympics. Carini fell to her knees and burst into tears in the ring.
The Olympic Games will end on August 11.
