The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Kazakhstan has officially filed an appeal with the PBU (Paris Boxing Unit) demanding an explanation of the result of the fight between boxer Muhammedsabyr Bazarbayuly and Lasha Guruli of Georgia in the weight category up to 63.5 kg at the Olympic Games in Paris.
On Thursday, Bazarbayuly failed to reach the semifinals of the Games, losing to Guruli by split decision.
— The NOC of Kazakhstan has appealed the result of Muhammedsabyr Bazarbayuly’s fight. We do not agree with the result and have requested clarification from the PBU, also informing the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In our opinion, the Kazakh boxer won an important fight to reach the semi-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games.
“We understand that it is impossible to review the result of the past match. However, we demand that the judging at the most important international competition be honest, fair and impartial for the remaining athletes,” said Zhanar Utesheva, Secretary General of the NOC of Kazakhstan, quoted by the organization’s press service.
Previously, the NOC of Kazakhstan had already made comments to the PBU regarding the calculation of points by individual judges in the fights of Kazakh boxers and an investigation was opened.
The 2024 Olympics will last until August 11.
