IOC President Thomas Bach has supported the participation of athletes who failed the gender test in the 2024 Olympic Games

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach called for an end to discussions on the participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris of athletes who had previously failed the gender test.

In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended the Algerian athlete. Iman Khelif And Lin Yuting (Taiwan) at the World Cup in India for not meeting the eligibility criteria. Following the gender test, it was proven that the athletes have XY chromosomes. The IOC has allowed them to participate in women’s competitions in 2024.

“It is the media, not the IOC, that should put an end to these problems.” We are talking about women’s boxing. And we have two boxers who were born women. They were raised as women. And they competed for many years as women. That is a clear definition of a woman. And we never doubted that.

But now we see that some people want to change the definition of “woman.” I can only suggest that they develop a new scientific definition of “woman” and that a woman cannot be considered as such. If they propose something, we are ready to listen to them. But we will not participate in a politically motivated culture war.

The Italian boxer has already said she regrets her Algerian opponent. And these are Olympic principles. Respect your opponent,” Bach said at a press conference.

On Thursday, Italy’s Angela Carini refused to continue her 1/8 final boxing match in the weight category up to 66 kg against Khelif at the 2024 Olympics. Carini fell to her knees and burst into tears in the ring. On Friday, Taiwan’s representative Lin Yuting beat Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova 5-0 in the 1/8 final in the weight category up to 57 kg and will meet Bulgaria’s Svetlana Kamenova in the quarterfinals.

The Olympic Games will end on August 11.
