Isaac Cruz also failed to defend his title, losing a split decision to Valenzuela
IN Los Angeles two high-profile heavyweight fights took place on the undercard of the main event of the event – the fight Terence Crawford And Israila Madrimova.
Martin Bakole (21-1, 16 KO) won a stoppage victory over Jared Anderson (17-1, 15 KOs), and the confrontation between the former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz (35-2-1, 22 KO) and Jarrell Miller (26-1-2, 22 KO) resulted in a draw.
Anderson started the fight actively, but the Congolese regularly caught him with powerful counter-punches, causing a knockdown in the first round. Martin finished off his opponent at the start of the fifth round – he fell, got up, but was unable to adequately continue the fight. The referee recorded Bakole’s victory by technical knockout. The American suffered his first defeat in his professional career.
Ruiz and Miller started cautiously, the fight was played with alternating initiative. Andy counterattacked well, Jarrell worked more often as the first number, threw punches more actively, especially at the end of the rounds.
In the end, one of the three judges gave the advantage to Miller, but this was not enough to win. 116-112, 114-114 and 114-114 – the result was declared a draw by “majority decision”.
It should be noted that this was Ruiz’s first fight since September 2022, when he defeated Luis Ortiz by unanimous decision. Miller’s break was much shorter – in December 2023, he lost to Briton Daniel Dubois.
Another fight on a big night of boxing in Los Angeles brought an unexpected result – Mexican Isaac Cruz (26-3-1, 18 KOs) failed to defend his WBA light welterweight title, losing by split decision (112-116, 115-113, 112-116) to compatriot Jose Valenzuela (14-2, 9 KO).
Let us recall that in the main fight of the event, Terence Crawford won a confident victory on points over Israil Madrimov, took the WBA belt in the first middleweight from his opponent and secured the championship title in the fourth weight category.
