Earlier, Algerian Iman Khelif, who was suspended from the World Championships in India in 2023 under the IBA eligibility criteria, qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s boxing tournament. A gender test confirmed the presence of XY chromosomes in the athlete. However, the IOC cleared Khelif to compete in 2024.
“At IBA, we operate with the utmost transparency. The only thing we cannot provide is medical documents. As president, I have no right to share personal and genetic data, because this is private information,” Kremlev said.
He regretted the situation in which, while affirming his support for gender equality and the protection of women, women’s sport is actually being destroyed. The Kremlin stressed that silence on this issue could lead to the normalization of such practices.
“Our relationship with the IOC is deteriorating because they are not protecting the athletes while we are trying to protect them,” he added.
The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
