Athletistic/OI-2024. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has received data from the International Boxing Association (IBA) on gender testing of athletes competing in the 2024 Olympic Games, but does not recognise the testing as legitimate, IOC communications director Mark Adams said.

The IBA had previously sent a letter to the IOC informing them of the athletes suspended for not meeting the eligibility criteria.

—The tests were illegitimate. We received the letter and I can confirm that. But the tests, I repeat, were not legitimate. This situation only exacerbates the pressure that the media puts on female athletes,” Adams said at a press conference.

According to him, the method and idea of these tests are unacceptable, and he will not go into details.

In 2023, the IBA suspended Iman Khelif (Algeria) and Lin Yuting (Taiwan) from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. A gender test showed that the athletes have XY chromosomes. However, the IOC allowed them to compete in women’s competitions in 2024.

In the quarterfinals of the 66kg category, Khelif beat Hungary’s Lutsa Hamori 5-0 to secure bronze at the 2024 Olympics.

The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
