Athletistic/OI-2024. Bulgarian Svetlana Staneva refused to shake hands with Taiwanese representative Lin Yuting after her defeat in the quarter-finals of the Olympic boxing tournament in the weight category up to 57 kg.
After the fight, Staneva burst into tears and twice showed the audience a gesture with her fingers crossed in the shape of the letter X, hinting at the presence of XX chromosomes.
Lin Yuting and Algeria’s Iman Khelif were disqualified from the 2023 World Championships for failing gender tests, but were nevertheless allowed to compete at the Paris Olympics.
