Russian boxing champion Dvali’s defeat case to be reclassified as attempted murder

The chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to requalify the actions of those involved in the attack on the Russian boxing champion Dmitri Dvali for attempted murder, the department’s press service reported.

Earlier it was reported that 23-year-old Dvali defended a boy who was beaten by the crowd and was seriously injured during the fight. The Investigative Committee of Crimea and Sevastopol is establishing the circumstances of the fight, due to which Dvali could lose an eye. Initially, a criminal case was opened under Part 2 of Art. 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism), paragraph “a”, Part 3 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing grievous harm to health).

— Taking into account the circumstances of the incident and the public outcry, the Chairman of the IC RF instructed the Head of the Main Investigation Directorate of the IC of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, VN Terentyev. to reclassify the actions of the attackers as attempted murder.

The progress of the criminal investigation was monitored by the central office of the department,” the statement said.

Dvali is the 2024 European champion and the 2023 world bronze medalist.
