Boyko, ASA fighter: “Mom didn’t believe in me. Maybe she motivated me with that”

Russian fighter Anatoly Boyko said the lack of support from his own mother motivated him to pursue mixed martial arts.

At the ACA 178 tournament, which will take place on August 16 in Moscow, Boyko will meet his compatriot Uzair Abdurakov. Boyko has 10 wins and two losses in MMA, Abdurakov has 18 wins, one loss and one draw.

— I was born into a dysfunctional family. Sometimes my parents weren’t at home, and when I was a child I would go out into the street at night, look for them and bring them home. My parents are deaf and mute, and until I was five years old I was more often with my grandmother. When I was little, I was ashamed of who my mother and father were. Each of their parents would walk them home and do their homework together. And I did everything myself.

When I started training, my mother told me to go to work. I didn’t believe it, I said: you won’t succeed, you’ll lose. Maybe that’s what motivated me. Dad gave money on the sly. My wife believed in me and pawned her parents’ jewelry to buy a gym membership. Now everything is fine, they support me a lot, my father is especially proud of me,” Boyko told .

The ACA 178 tournament will be headlined by the ACA Heavyweight Grand Prix final bout between Evgeniy Goncharov and Adam Bogatyrev.
