Russian Azalia Amineva believes that the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) has in vain ignored the recommendations of the International Boxing Association (IBA), allowing an Algerian athlete who failed gender tests to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris Iman Khelif and Lin Yuting from Taiwan.
In 2023, the IBA suspended Khelif and Lin Yuting from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. Following the gender test, it was proven that the athletes have XY chromosomes. The IOC allowed them to compete in women’s boxing at the Paris Olympics. Khelif and Yuting have already reached the semi-finals, securing at least bronze medals. Amineva challenged Khelif, promising to answer for all female boxers.
— The IOC plays by its own rules. They did not listen to the IBA regarding Khelif’s admission and because of this they found themselves in a very big scandal. The International Olympic Committee initially sided with Iman and Lin Yuting, calling their presence in the women’s tournament normal, RT quotes Amineva.
Boxing competitions at the Olympic Games are organised by a special unit created by the IOC Executive Board. In June 2023, the IOC Session expelled the IBA from the Olympic movement by a majority vote.
