The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has ordered current junior middleweight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev of Russia to stage a title defence against an Australian. Tim Tszyu.
According to Fight Freaks Unite journalist Dan Rafael, Murtazaliev and Tszyu have been given 30 days to reach an agreement. This development of events could end the search for an opponent for Tszyu for the fight scheduled for September 22 in Australia.
In July, it was announced that Tszyu’s IBF junior middleweight world title qualifying fight against American Erickson Lubin had been cancelled.
Tszyu, 29, lost a split decision to American Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas in late March to suffer the first defeat of his career. He failed to defend the World Boxing Organization (WBO) world title or win the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) junior middleweight belt.
Murtazaliev is 31 years old and has won 22 times in 22 fights.
