The Australian National Amateur Boxing Association (ANABA) has become a temporary member of the International Boxing Association (IBA), according to the international organisation’s website.
Australia plans to field a team for the Oceania Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in November 2024, following domestic competitions to IBA standards.
— It is a great honour for us to be granted temporary membership of the IBA. This is a significant moment for Australian boxing and we look forward to the growth, development and international opportunities not only for our athletes but also for our coaches, officials and staff.
This new partnership with the IBA will allow us to provide our athletes with exceptional opportunities for success. “We are excited about the future of boxing in Australia and the positive impact this partnership with the IBA will have on our athletes and the wider boxing community,” said ANABA President Nick Land.
In June 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session expelled the IBA from the Olympic movement by a majority vote. Boxing competitions at the Olympic Games are organized by a special unit created by the IOC Executive Board. An alternative organization to the IBA, World Boxing, was founded by the national federations that left the IBA.
