Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, said that admitting athletes who failed the gender test to the Paris Olympics violates women’s rights and is a disgusting spectacle.
The International Boxing Association (IBA) has suspended Algerian Iman Khelif and Taiwanese Lin Yuting from the 2023 World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. Following gender testing, the athletes were found to have XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has admitted Khelif and Lin Yuting to women’s competitions in 2024.
On Tuesday, Khelif reached the final of the boxing tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the 66 kg category. The Algerian has secured at least a silver medal at the Games; the final match with her participation will take place on August 9. In the 1/8 finals, Italian Angela Carini refused to continue the fight against Khelif, falling to her knees and crying right in the ring, and then after the fight she announced her retirement.
— It is important to be consistent and not to allow double standards in approaches to ensuring women’s rights, protecting their dignity and safety. So, to tell the truth, it is difficult to perceive beautiful words and largely correct arguments from the mouths of our Western colleagues in conditions when, at the Olympic Games in Paris, which they essentially monopolized to the detriment of the international Olympic movement, female boxers are publicly exposed to violence from athletes who have failed the hormonal test of the International Boxing Federation and who, in its opinion and in accordance with common sense, are men. This absolutely disgusting spectacle from all points of view shows what damage to the respect for women’s rights and their dignity is caused by the agenda of non-traditional values persistently imposed by the West on the whole world.
“We believe that in many traditional societies, the influence of women, wives and mothers on political and social processes is exercised in a way that has been formed over centuries and can in fact be even more effective than under the latest liberal guidelines,” Polyansky told a meeting of the UN Security Council.
The Olympic Games will end on August 11.
