A Taiwanese athlete who failed a gender identity test has reached the final of the boxing tournament at the 2024 Olympics.

Taiwan’s Lin Yuting has reached the final of the boxing competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

In the semi-final in the weight category up to 57 kg, Yuting defeated Turkey’s Esra Yildiz with a score of 5:0.

Yuting’s opponent in the Olympic final will be announced later.

In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Yuting and Algerian Iman Khelif from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. Following gender testing, the athletes were found to have XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) cleared them to compete in women’s competitions in 2024.

The Olympic Games will end on August 11.
