Moroccan boxer attacked on social media after scandal with Algerian Khelif at 2024 Olympics

A Moroccan boxer, Oumaima Belahbib, has complained of being attacked on social media after denouncing the performance of an Algerian athlete who failed a gender test. Iman Khelif at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, reports Le Parisien.

According to the publication, citing police sources, the Moroccan woman filed a complaint for insults and death threats due to the situation in Khelif. The 27-year-old athlete said she received more than a thousand negative comments from social media users who believe she is the initiator of the scandal surrounding the Algerian woman.

In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Khelif from the World Championships in India for failing to meet eligibility criteria. Following the gender test, it was proven that the athlete has XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) admitted Khelif to women’s competitions in 2024. Italy’s Angela Carini burst into tears after refusing to continue her fight with Khelif in the 1/8 finals of the Paris Olympics tournament in the weight category up to 66 kg. Khelif had previously complained of bullying on social media.

“I am accused of being the originator of the plot against Iman, because I am her competitor, and I am also a member of the IBA. It is a problem between these two athletes (Khelif and Karini) and I am in the middle. “I have not received any support,” Belahbib noted.

Belahbib is a member of the IBA Athletes Committee. Khelif reached the final of the Olympic tournament and will compete for gold with China’s Yang Liu.

The Olympic Games in the French capital will end on August 11.
