WBA Asian champion and 2021 world champion Vadim Musaev of Russia has told that he does not recognise the strength of Tim Tszyu, who plays for Australia, and considers him a local champion.
Earlier in the media, it was reported that IBF junior middleweight champion, Russian Bahram Murtazaliev, is set to defend his belt against former WBO champion Tszyu.
— In the fight between Tim Tszyu and Bakhram, it’s 50-50, I really don’t like either opponent. I won’t say that they are classy and high-level boxers. For example, Tim Tszyu fought in Australia and made several trips to the United States. And about Bahram… I didn’t follow his story. I saw him win the vacant belt in Germany against an older and already declining opponent. If Bahram defends the belt several times, then I admit that he is a real champion.
– Why aren’t you impressed by Tim Tszyu? Many believe he was removed because of his last name.
“His father is a great boxer, I loved him very much. I watched his fights. And Tim Tszyu… I don’t want to offend anyone, but he is like a local champion. If you want to be recognized, you have to go box somewhere else. After all, the situation is different on the road, where you have to win two or three times convincingly. Now, if he had boxed (with Fundora) at home, maybe they would have left him these belts,” Musaev told .
Tim Tszyu, 29, has 24 wins and one loss. He has spent all but two of his professional fights in Australia. Notably, in his last fight in the United States, Tszyu lost by split decision to American Sebastian Fundora and lost his WBO belt. The WBC title was also on the line in that fight.
On Thursday in Ufa, Musaev, 31, defeated Tanzanian Paulus Amavila by fourth-round technical knockout to win the vacant WBA Asia junior middleweight belt at the League of Betting tournament. IBA Champions Night.”
