Bach on the performances of athletes who failed the gender test at the Olympics: “Women have the right to participate in women’s competitions”

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) Thomas Bach Commenting on the situation of the participation of athletes who did not pass the gender identity test in the boxing tournament at the Olympic Games, he said that they had every right to participate in these competitions.

The International Boxing Association (IBA) has suspended the Algerian in 2023 Iman Khelif and Lin Yuting of Taiwan at the World Cup in India due to failure to meet eligibility criteria. Following gender testing, it was proven that the athletes have XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has admitted Khelif and Lin Yuting to women’s competitions in 2024.

“It’s not about inclusion, it’s about fairness.” Women can compete in women’s competitions. Tests have been done and the results have been received. It’s science. Both of these athletes are women and are eligible to compete in the women’s tournament.

No one can tell whether they have advantages or not. Who can say that this is not a woman just by looking at a person? – Bach said at a press conference.

The Olympic Games will end on August 11.
