Athletistic/OI-2024. Algerian boxer Iman Khelif, who won gold in the under-66kg category at the Paris Olympics, stressed that her victory took on special significance because of the criticism levelled at her.

Khelif, 25, triumphed in the Olympic final by winning a unanimous decision over China’s Liu Yang. Khelif, who competed amid a gender testing scandal, did not lose a single round throughout the tournament.

“I am a woman like any other. I was born a woman and I lived as a woman, but my success has displeased some, which gives my victory a special taste. All these statements on social networks are immoral. I want to change the conscience of people around the world.

“Since 2018, I have been competing under the auspices of the IBA and they know everything about me. Some members of the association hate me and I don’t understand why. Today, I told them that my honour is the most important,” Khelif was quoted as saying by Reuters.
